A war between four kings and five. Lot is captured. Abram pursues with 318 trained men, defeats a coalition of Mesopotamian kings, and rescues his nephew. On the way back he meets two kings: the king of Sodom, who offers him the spoils, and Melchizedek, king of Salem, who brings out bread and wine. Abram tithes to one and refuses everything from the other. The contrast is the point.
