Famine drives Isaac toward Gerar, where God appears and tells him to stay in the land. He stays — and calls Rebekah his sister, repeating Abraham's deception in the same place with the same king. After prosperity brings envy, Isaac re-digs Abraham's stopped-up wells through a gauntlet of disputes (Esek, Sitnah) until he finds room at Rehoboth. At Beer-sheba God appears again; Abimelech comes seeking a covenant. The chapter ends with Esau's disastrous marriages.
