Jacob arrives in Haran. At a well — again a well, as with Rebekah — he meets Rachel, Laban's daughter, and is overcome. He rolls the stone from the well's mouth alone, waters the flock, kisses Rachel, and weeps. He works for Laban seven years for Rachel. They seem like only a few days because of his love for her. On the wedding night Laban substitutes Leah, the older daughter, for Rachel. Jacob does not discover the deception until morning. 'What is this you have done to me?' Laban answers: it is not done here to give the younger before the firstborn. Jacob works another seven years for Rachel.
