The famine deepens. Judah persuades Jacob to send Benjamin, pledging his own life as surety. The brothers return to Egypt with gifts and double the money. Joseph sees Benjamin and is so moved he must leave the room to weep privately. Then he hosts a feast — the brothers are seated by birth order, which astonishes them — and Benjamin's portion is five times that of the others.
