Joseph can contain himself no longer. He sends the Egyptians out of the room and weeps so loudly that the household hears it. Then: "I am Joseph." His brothers cannot answer him — they are terrified. Joseph speaks the theological center of the entire narrative: "You did not send me here; God did." He sends them back to bring Jacob, promising land in Goshen for five more years of famine.
