Jacob Buried; Joseph's Death

Joseph weeps over his father, commands the Egyptian physicians to embalm him — a seventy-day process. A great procession crosses the Jordan to bury Jacob in the cave of Machpelah. On the return, the brothers fear Joseph will now take revenge. He does not: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good." Genesis closes with Joseph's death at 110 — the ideal Egyptian age — his bones left unburied in Egypt, awaiting the promise of return to Canaan.
