Two Officers Imprisoned
1And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.
2And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
3And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
4And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.
5And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
6And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.
7And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?
8↔And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
The Butler's Dream
9And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
12And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
14But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
15For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
The Baker's Dream
16When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
17And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
18And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:
19Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
The Interpretations Fulfilled
20↔And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
21And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:
22But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23↔Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
Two Officers Imprisoned
1After these things, the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord, the king of Egypt.
2Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker.
3He put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
4The captain of the guard assigned Joseph to them, and he served them. They continued in custody for a while.
5They both dreamed a dream, each man his own dream, in one night, each man with its own interpretation, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.
6Joseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and saw that they were sad.
7He asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in custody of his lord's house, saying, "Why do you look so sad today?"
8↔They said to him, "We have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it." Joseph said to them, "Don't interpretations belong to God? Please tell it to me."
The Butler's Dream
9The chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, "In my dream, behold, a vine was in front of me,
10and in the vine were three branches. It was as though it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters produced ripe grapes.
11Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand."
12Joseph said to him, "This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days.
13Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head, and restore you to your office. You will give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, the way you did when you were his cupbearer.
14But remember me when it will be well with you, and please show kindness to me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house.
15For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon."
The Baker's Dream
16When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, "I also was in my dream, and behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head.
17In the uppermost basket there were all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head."
18Joseph answered, "This is its interpretation. The three baskets are three days.
19Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head from off you, and will hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from off you."
The Interpretations Fulfilled
20↔On the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.
21He restored the chief cupbearer to his position again, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand;
22but he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23↔Yet the chief cupbearer didn't remember Joseph, but forgot him.

1And it cometh to pass after these things, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and the baker have sinned against their lord, against the king of Egypt;
2and Pharaoh is wroth against his two eunuchs, against the head of the cupbearers, and against the head of the bakers,
3and he putteth them in charge, in the house of the head of the executioners, unto the prison-house, the place where Joseph is bound.
4And the head of the executioners chargeth Joseph with them, and he serveth them, and they are days in charge.
5And they dream a dream, both of them, each his own dream, in one night, each according to the interpretation of his dream — the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who are bound in the prison-house.
6And Joseph cometh in unto them in the morning, and seeth them, and lo, they are troubled;
7and he asketh the eunuchs of Pharaoh who are with him in charge in the house of his lord, saying, 'Wherefore are your faces so sad to-day?'
8↔And they say unto him, 'A dream we have dreamed, and an interpreter there is none of it'; and Joseph saith unto them, 'Are not interpretations God's? recount, I pray you, to me.'
The Butler's Dream
9And the head cupbearer recounteth his dream to Joseph, and saith to him, 'In my dream, lo, a vine is before me,
10and in the vine three branches: and it is as budding — its blossoms have gone up — its clusters have ripened grapes;
11and the cup of Pharaoh is in my hand, and I take the grapes, and press them unto the cup of Pharaoh, and I give the cup upon the hand of Pharaoh.'
12And Joseph saith to him, 'This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days;
13within three more days doth Pharaoh lift up thy head, and hath restored thee unto thine office, and thou dost give the cup of Pharaoh into his hand, according to the former manner when thou wast his cupbearer.
14But — thou hast remembered me with thee when it is well with thee, and thou hast done with me kindness, I pray thee, and hast made mention of me unto Pharaoh, and hast brought me out from this house;
15for I have been stolen — I have been stolen from the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they put me into the dungeon.'
The Baker's Dream
16And the head baker seeth that he hath interpreted well, and saith unto Joseph, 'I also — in my dream, and lo, three baskets of white bread are on my head,
17and in the upper basket is of all food of Pharaoh, work of a baker, and the fowl is eating them out of the basket from off my head.'
18And Joseph answereth and saith, 'This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days;
19within three more days doth Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and hath hanged thee on a tree, and the fowl hath eaten thy flesh from off thee.'
The Interpretations Fulfilled
20↔And it cometh to pass on the third day — a birthday of Pharaoh — that he maketh a banquet to all his servants, and he lifteth up the head of the head cupbearer and the head of the head baker in the midst of his servants,
21and he turneth back the head cupbearer unto his cupbearing, and he giveth the cup upon the hand of Pharaoh;
22and the head baker he hath hanged, as Joseph hath interpreted to them.
23↔And the head cupbearer hath not remembered Joseph, and forgetteth him.
